ParentsTogether Action Online Safety Landing Page
Social media is the only unregulated product our kids use every day.
Social media platforms, which experiment on kids to make more profit, have drastically changed the experience of growing up. 95% of teens use social media for nearly 5 hours per day on average – more than any activity outside school and sleep.
All this time on unsafe social media platforms exposes our kids to serious and even deadly threats: disordered eating and poor body image, sexual predators, bullies, drugs, dangerous challenges, addictive design, and increased anxiety and depression.
We refuse to let social media companies continue to put their profits over our kids’ safety.
We’re building a parent-powered movement for a safer internet so every child can thrive, online and offline.
Advancing the Kids Online Safety Act
We’ve worked in partnership with dozens of parents directly impacted by social media harms. The power of these amazing parents have transformed the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) from a languishing bill to a leading piece of online safety legislation before Congress. KOSA would create a “duty of care” requiring platforms to mitigate harm, make kids’ settings private by default, and give parents and kids more control over their experiences.
Passing and Advancing Safety By Design Laws
We have passed age-appropriate design codes – bills which require social media companies put kids’ safety ahead of profits – in California and Maryland, and advanced bills in Minnesota, Vermont, Nevada, and New Mexico. Find out more about getting an age-appropriate design code in your state.
Winning Real Changes from Big Tech Companies
We bring the voices and experiences of real parents directly to big tech companies and have successfully advocated for concrete product and policy changes from some of the world’s biggest and most powerful platforms.
Changing the Narrative Around Social Media
Billionaire tech companies have been putting the onus of online safety onto parents alone for too long. We identify parents and families who have been personally harmed online, media train them, and support them in sharing their experiences to call for change and accountability. Our survivor parents and work has been featured on the Today Show, NBC Nightly News, The New York Times, USA Today, NPR, CBS News, Yahoo! News, Wall Street Journal, and more.
Educating, Supporting and Empowering Parents
We create original, educational content for parents about the most pressing issues in online safety – from emerging AI threats to setting parental controls to having trust-building conversations with kids. We also work directly with impacted parents to support them with resources, connect them with advocacy opportunities, and empower them to share their experiences widely.
Building Partnerships to Grow the Movement
We partner with leading companies and organizations committed to building a safer online future for kids to grow and diversify the tech accountability movement.
